GARDAÍ IN WARNING TO RACE-GOERS
GARDAÍ URGE LISTOWEL PUNTERS TO BE VIGILANT OVER COUNTERFEIT NOTES
GARDAÍ in Listowel have issued a strong warning to race punters not to park in housing estates and residential areas in the town as they access the racecourse this week.
They are also appealing to racegoers and traders to be on the look-out for fake €50 notes they fear criminal gangs are putting into circulation in the busy race town this week.
Gardaí are now urging punters to park in specially-designated zones for race traffic around the Island this week. They also urge people to ensure their vehicles are secured and free of valuable items amid fears of criminal elements targeting race-goers
Patrons are strongly advised to park in the following car park locations in Listowel while attending the Races: Greenville (entrance off Grenville Road), Greenville (entrance off Convent Street); the centre of the Island (entrance off the N69- Listowel/Tralee road) and Barrett’s Field (entrance off Bridge Road, Listowel).
Parking will also be available in Listowel town car parks while restrictions are in place in residential areas of Listowel.
“‘We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable weekend at the races. I would ask everyone driving to the festival to use one of the many designated car parks and avoid parking in residential areas,” Superintendent Dan Keane said.
“When you do park your car, make sure it is locked and that no valuables are left inside on display. Keep your belongings on you at all times and stay safe. Most of all, if you plan on having a drink, don’t get behind the wheel. Enjoy the Races,” Supt Keane added.
Gardaí have also warned about counterfeit €50 notes they believe are in circulation. They have been described as of very high-quality, urging traders and punters to be extremely vigilant.
