Ballymacelligott Vintage Rally and Family Fun Day this weekend
THE newly formed Ballymacelligott Vintage Club will hold its inaugural rally and family fun festival in the field adjacent to Ó Riada’s Bar and Restaurant on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16.
Saturday night’s pig on the spit, music and dance at O’Riada’s will get the next day off to a lively start and provide a little nostalgia. A video of the last comparable vintage rally in the parish in 1994 will be shown on the night.
While the main purpose of this rally will be to provide a platform for vintage enthusiasts to display their restored rarities, it will also make for a very packed day of side shows, family fun and games. In these times of rural isolation for many, it is hoped that people will make the effort to come along and enjoy themselves.
This year, Land Rover celebrates the 70th anniversary of the launch of it’s first model in England, in 1948. A selection of these vehicles from down through the decades will feature, side by side with beautifully restored cars and tractors.
A tug-o-war pull against a Ferguson 20 tractor is sure to make young and old laugh and little fun rides, face painting, bouncing castles and novelty events will keep the little ones amused.
A sheep sheering demonstration will also feature. Those who fancy that their little pet dog might win a prize at the dog show, should bring him or her along.
Of course, where would we be on such a day, without a tasty burger and chips, followed by a nice ice cream, as well as the old reliable sweets and bars.
The hard working committee which organised the event is looking forward to a large turnout and the group is pleased to state that Recovery Haven Cancer Care in Tralee, will benefit financially from its efforts.
The recently formed committee includes: Chairman: Chris Robbins; Secretary: Noel Keane; Joint Treasurers: Joan Fleming and Mary Lynch; PRO: George Glover; Safety Officer: John Duggan. Committee members: Joan Glover, James Conway and Paul Horan,
