Busy weekend of fundraising in Castleisland
CASTLEISLAND and its environs had a busy weekend of fundraising activity. On Friday night the local rugby club launched its Split the Bucket fundraiser with a great turnout at Kearney’s Bar.
At the same time down at the local community centre, Cordal GAA Club held its second big event with Dan Dan and Lisa McHugh taking to the stage for a floor full of dancing, music loving patrons.
Sunday was busy also as the Castleisland Day Care Centre Cycle took off on its 12th annual tour from the centre at 10am.
There was a great crowd of mixed ages taking part and management at the centre thanked everyone who cycled or helped in any way to make the day the success it was.
At 1pm on Sunday an educated, estimated €4m worth of hi-tech farm tractors joined their many vintage predecessors at the yard of the Castleisland Co- Op Mart for the 1pm start of the seventh annual Paudie Fitzmaurice Memorual Vintage Vehicle Run.
The late Mr. Fitzmaurice’s wife Mary and daughters, Laura, Ava and Sharon set the run on the road as they cut the ceremonial tape as the off time apporached.
Rebekah Daly from Abbeyfeale had the honour of leading the run out on her vintage Massey Ferguson.
The drivers returned to a barbecue and post event gathering at Tom McCarthy’s Bar to crown a highly successful weekend of fundraising for all the clubs and groups involved.
