Speed ramps or electronic signs badly needed in Ballybunion
SIR, As a regular visitor to Ballybunion I have come to notice the continuing menace of cars dangerously driving at high speed through the town. This is very evident on the long straight approaching road from Listowel as far as the Garda Station.
Ahafona Cross is another area where pedestrians have to be very wary of speeding cars approaching from Gortnaskeha minor road. On this road there is a mobile home park where many families stay at various times of the year. Many of these visitors walk into town on foot and on part of that journey there is no pavement.
Some of them can be seen with prams and small children walking on the grass verge of the road at their peril.
Along this road there are elderly people who have to put up with this speeding madness and at the same time the HSE is encouraging people to walk more for the good of their health. It would seem that these particular drivers ignore speed limit road signs and just see a straight road ahead as an invitation to drive as fast as possible.
Would a few speed ramps or a few flashing electronic warning signs help to make Ballybunion a safer place for pedestrians and drivers alike? Sincerely,
Deasún ÓSeanáin,
