Serena Williams’ adolescent behaviour should not be tolerated ever - anywhere
SIR, Serena Williams sport. End of story.
Because male tennis players have not been penalised and fined in the past for actions similar to her disgusting display of embarrassing behaviour, she expected the umpire in question to lower the bar at the US Open to accommodate her lousy attitude. That is almost as bad as the actual offense. He did what was right. The other umpires did what was wrong. Perhaps Serena would like bad umpiring to be the order of the day so she can act however she likes with impunity.
Because he held her to the standards in the rule book, she whinged and screamed that he had it in for her because, as she stated, “I am a woman”. What a load of rot. She tried to defend an indefensible position by claiming that she was fighting for “strong women”. A bigger load of rot.
Serena Williams was fighting for Serena Williams – no one else. is a poor It was shameful for her to drag her young daughter into the fray. She’s been fined before and, in fact, was suspended not so long ago for two years for aggressive behaviour on the court towards an umpire.
Now she wants people to rally ‘round her multi-millionaire tears. She is selfish and boorish and no one that a truly strong woman should look up to.
If anyone needs truly strong women to look up to they should take a gander at our fabulous Irish women athletes. The women who play rugby for Ireland, camogie for any county team, or participate in track and fields events are a mountain of examples of playing well, winning well and standing proud for themselves.
Serena Williams’ adolescent behaviour should not be tolerated ever – anywhere.
Sincerely,
Tom Cahill Ballinskelligs
