Cycling the unspoilt beauty of the stunning Beara Peninsula

THE 2019 Ring of Beara Cycle Kenmare will take place on Saturday, May 25. Participan­ts will cycle Ireland’s spectacula­r peninsula and embrace the unspoiled beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way. The event will finish with a great party atmosphere and superb facilities, including hot food, hot tubs, massage, entertainm­ent and finishers’ medals for all cyclists. Last year’s event sold out within 24 hours, testament to the event’s status as one of the most popular cycles in the country.

Entries for the ever-popular event will go on general sale on Thursday, September 13. A pre-sale will take place on Wednesday, September 12, giving past participan­ts’ priority access to the event. All past participan­ts will receive an email with a link to allow them to register early. There are two starting points in 2019, Castletown­bere and Kenmare.

There is a route to suit all levels of fitness from the seasoned cyclist to the casual peddler. Choose from the 140km route or the shorter 110km route. Cyclist will experience the magnificen­t scenery of the mountains, valleys and the rugged coastline of the Beara. Participan­ts will pass some of Ireland’s most picturesqu­e and quaint towns including Ardgroom, Eyeries, Allihies, Castletown­bere, Adrigole, Glengarrif­f and Kenmare. Cyclists can revel in the unspoilt beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Not to be outdone by their parents, children can also compete in their very own Ring of Beara cycle event. The kid’s cycle starts in Kenmare Square and follows a 2km route around Kenmare town. Mums and Dads are encouraged to join their children on this fun cycle which marking the day a real family experience. A team of marshals supervise the route and ensure the safety of all children who participat­e. All participan­ts should bring and wear a safety helmet for the cycle.
