O’Shea says relegation game is “huge for us”

-

KENMARE played with the very strong wind in the first half but led by just three points at the half time break. Their manager Sean O’Shea knew that facing into the elements in the second half that Rathmore would come at them with all guns blazing.

“We knew really that a three-point lead at half time wasn’t enough. We actually talked about it in the dressing room and expected Rathmore to have a right go at us in the start of the second half. For the first 10 minutes we couldn’t get our hands on the ball. We couldn’t even get out of our own half. Funnily enough both sides were turning over each others kickouts and it was strange from that point of view. I suppose the goal chance that we had was a key moment in the game but it’s a team effort so no blame to anyone. In fairness we left a lot of chances after us but overall I’m happy with the commitment that the lads showed.”

Kenmare are now faced with a senior championship relegation game with An Ghaeltacht, and O’Shea said that his side would prepare for that massive game.

“We are very disappointed to be out of the championship. I would love to be in the draw again but it wasn’t to be. I think that in our game against South Kerry (lost 1-14 to 0-13) and again today we have shown that we are good enough for senior championship. We played some good football in tough conditions out there today, and maybe on a dry day we might have got the win. Rathmore deserved it to be fair to them”.

“The An Ghaeltacht game will be huge for us . Both of us will be fighting for our lives so we will have to be at full throttle to get a result against them. Hopefully we will be back playing senior championship football again next year”.
