THE GAME IN 60 SECONDS
MAIN MAN
Midfielder Donal O’Sullivan was immense for Rathmore. When they needed leadership he stood up and constantly took the game to Kenmare. O’Sullivan was sent off in the 61st minute for a second yellow card, but this shouldn’t detract from what was a very assured performance from the Rathmore man.
KEY MOMENT
Unfortunately it had to be Ciaran O’Sullivan’s goal miss in the 44th minute. Kenmare had taken a battering in the third quarter of the game, but a goal at that stage would have nudged them a point ahead. With the teams so evenly matched throughout the field, it might have given Kenmare the impetus to push on secure victory.
TALKING POINT
Kenmare’s defeat puts them out of the championship, but it also sets up a mouth watering relegation clash with An Ghaeltacht. It would be a shame to see either of these twosides lose their senior status. Certainly on the evidence of their two championship games Kenmare Shamrocks have proven that they can compete at this level and deserve another shot at senior championship football in 2019.
