St Brendans take Under 16 plate crown
U16 HURLING PLATE FINAL
St Brendans 1-22 Lixnaw 3-9
ST Brendan and Lixnaw served up a cracking encounter in Kilmoyley in the Under 16 Hurling Plate Final, with St Brendans edging a close battle in the finish.
St Brendans had the better of the opening half, leading a close and absorbing contest by 0-10 to 0-7 at the break. They continued to fire early in the second half and looked to be pulling away, but a resilient Lixnaw hit back with goals and narrowed the gap to just two points.
A St Brendans’ goal from Billy Daly and some sharp-shooting by Sean Brosnan turned the tide again and St Brendans pulled away to take the title.
UNDER 16 HURLING DIVISION 1 SEMI-FINAL
Abbeydorney 3-20 Crotta O’Neills 3-17
WITH man of the match Michael Slattery and centre back Jack Parker in top form, Abbeydorney led by 2-8 to 1-9 after a cracking first half.
It should have been more, but they left three good goal chances, all created by Slattery, behind them. Crotta fought back superbly in the second half, with Darragh O’Donoghe and Jack Trant leading the charge, and managed to goal in the final minute to take the game into extra-time on a 2-17 to 3-14 scoreline.
Abbeydorney managed to pull away in extra-time to win out by three points in a superb game of hurling.
