Mainebank win nine-goal thriller against Ballybunion

IN a nine-goal thriller at Mounthawk Park on Saturday evening Ballybunion got their season off to a great start with an exciting win over Mainebank in a highly entertaining game.

The seasiders seemed to be on their way to a comfortable win when they held a 4-1 advantage but Mainebank staged a tremendous second half comeback and two great strikes brought it back to 4-3.

However Mainebank conceded an own goal in the 90th minute and their fourth goal in added time came too late to effect the outcome and Ballybunion ran out very deserving winners.

Young 18-year old Eric Daly made his debut for the winners and scored twice in the 13th and 55th minutes, Alexander Caw scored in the 38th minute and Callum McSweeney scored in the 66th minute and their other goal was on own goal.

Brendan Delaney (2), James Long and Aaron O’Sullivan scored for Mainebank.
