Breda meets fans in Killarney
KERRY’S newest author, Breda Joy, undertook her first official engagement with the signing of her book ‘Eat The Moon’ on Saturday afternoon at Eason’s in Killarney.
Friends, family and fans were all on hand to meet the well known Kerry writer and journalist as she signed copies of her debut novel.
The Killarney journalist’s first novel hit bookshelves across the country last week and is getting rave reviews.
A former Kerryman journalist, Breda Joy, has always promised to put pen to paper to produce a novel and is thrilled to have her debut novel now on shelves across the country.
The new book is family saga set in 1969 – the year of the moon landing – and tells the story of the O’Mahony family and especially the central character Kieran O’Mahony whose life is thrown into turmoil.
Life back in rural Ireland is vividly captured for readers, including Irish traditions in the book which is set in rural Cork, where Breda’s grandparents hailed from and where she spent many summers growing up.
Breda was prompted to finally write her first novel after undertaking an MA in creative writing and earlier this year she signed a three book deal with Poolbeg.
This is her first novel and she is thrilled with the reaction it has received.
Breda is now currently finalising her next novel amid launching ‘ Eat the Moon’.
“I’ve been interested in books and writing for as long as I can remember,” Breda said. “I’ve written poetry, plays and short stories, but my big ambition was to write a novel. It’ s taken me a while but here it is. So let’s hope the story goes down well.”
‘Eat the Moon’ is now on sale in bookshops across the country.
