JOE HARRINGTOM ALBUM

An album of songs by Lyreacrompane native, Joe Harrington, is now in the shops. The title of the album is The Songs of Joe Harrington. Joe has been writing songs for the past two decades and they have been recorded by local and not so local singers and bands. The album includes ‘The Road John Murphy Made,’ the winning song in this year’s Sean McCarthy Ballad Competition. It is sung by Pat McCarthy, Duagh and Dublin. The song is set in the 1750s connecting the butter trade to the slave trade and the road in question is the one through Lyreacrompane.

Other singers featured are Sonny Egan, Caroline O’Callaghan, Albert Roche, Eddie Lee, Mike Condon, Doris Shire, Peggy Sweeney, Peter Burke, Billy Donegan, Bachelors in Trouble, Mike Fitzgerald, the late Fr. Pat Moore, Austin Durack and Elle Marie O’Dwyer. RTE’s Micheal O’Muircheartaig and Donnacha O’Dulaing help out on a couple of the tracks. The Irish Rambling House Song, written by Kay O’Leary who, along with Joe takes that show to England to entertain the exiles, also features on the Album.

The album also has a couple of Duagh parish footballing songs recounting the club’s achievements. One features the late Fr. Moore and Weeshie Forgerty. There are 19 tracks in all.

The proceeds from the album goes towards the Fund for the renovation of the old Glen Schoolhouse in Lyreacrompane as a Heritage Centre for the general Stacks Mountains area. This community project aims to preserve and highlight the Heritage, Culture and Environment of the Stacks Mountains and involve the community in a manner that will lessen social isolation.
