The Kerryman (North Kerry)

BEALE

-

Beale juniors conceeded the quarter final of the Cahill Cup to Annauscal on Friday evening as we were unable to field a team.

Beale seniors play Ballyduff in the opening round of the North Kerry Championship in Ballyduff. Our juniors received a bye in the first round, while our minors take on Moyvane/Tarbert and our Under-21s are also pitted against Moyvane/Tarbert. Shannon Rangers’ campaign in the County Senior Championship has come to an end, losing out to a much stronger St Brendan’s on Saturday evening in Tarbert. Beale players on the team were Jeremy King and Darragh Buckley. St Brendan’s put their stamp on the game, rattling the net from the throw-in. However, the home side kept them in contention and were just four points adrift going into the second half. Goals were the order of the day for St Brendan’s, raising the green flag six times and the game ended 6-11 to 0-15. Beale GAA Club is saddened to hear of the death of John Carroll, Loyola, Ballybunion. John’s brother, Jimmy, has been prominent in GAA circles for many years and acted as treasurer of the club through the 1980s. An ardent supporter, Jimmy was among the many volunteers who developed the pitch facilities in the late 1970s. As well as raising funds, Jimmy was a great entertainer and in general, came to the rescue when work had to be done. When researching our club history, ‘Sand in our Boots’, Jimmy gladly shared with us his memories and photographs. Beale GAA Club extend sympathies to the family of John Carroll. The team will now play Dingle in the last 16 of the championship this weekend, time and venue TBC.

Tractor RunA wonderful turn out yesterday for the annual Paudie Fitzmaurice Tractor Run. It has become an amazing event that brings together all ages and genders who spruce up their tractors and make the circuit to remember my old National School classmate and lovely human being, Paudie. It’s fantastic seeing all the little kids out along the circuit loving the display of tractors.

GAA Glory - It just keeps on coming! At the forthcoming All Ireland Ladies Football Final, our very own Emily Woods will be honoured as part of the Kerry senior squad who won the All Ireland 25 years ago. Let us never forget that it was a woman who first brought a Senior All Ireland football medal to this parish - in my living memory. Emily will always be remembered as the player who managed to kick over the very point that won Kerry the Munster title that year thus allowing the team to push on to All Ireland glory. We will be watching with pride on Sunday, Emily, as you take to the pitch. Congratulations!
