IFAC hosts seminar in Ballygarry House on protecting your farm going into the future
BALLYGARRY House Hotel was the venue last Wednesday, as farming, food, and agribusiness accountancy group ‘ifac’ held a seminar on ‘Protecting your Farming Future’.
Farmers from throughout the county were in Tralee for the event on the evening, as the seminar took participants through farm planning for now and into the future.
Nollaig Heffernan of Heffernan’s Consultancy was present as a special guest speaker, addressing the stresses that go with farm management.
Other high-profile figures there on the night included financial adviser Kevin Thompson, ‘ifac’ senior accountant Thomas Culloty, Mary McDonagh, Michael Brosnan, and Noreen Lacey. Between a number of ‘ifac’ specialists, issues such as farm succession and inheritance planning; PAYE modernisation; financial services; and investment planning and advice were covered.
Michael Brosnan was the facilitator on the night, and he said the event was very well received by those in attendance.
“It was very good altogether,” he told The Kerryman. “There were about 140 people there in total.
“We talked about the dayto-day management of farms and planning for the future. Nollaig Heffernan spoke on the night, and that was very good, very well received. There was also the message in that to farmers to take time to themselves and switch off in the evenings.
“Another message was not to take decisions on your business without assessing the tax implications – which ‘ifac’ can help you with.”
