One woman’s attempt to retrace her heritage
SIR,
I am of Irish descent and live in Queensland, Australia.
I have spent many years researching my family history but have had great difficulty finding information on my Irish branch. Perhaps your readers have some tips – or are even related.
My great-great grandparents were Cornelius Dore and Johanna Stack from the Ballybunion area, and Maurice Joy and Catherine/ Kate Carroll from Urlee.
A total of four of the Dore boys – John, Cornelius Jr, Michael and Pat – emigrated to Queensland in Australia, while James Joseph emigrated to the US where he married Mary Bambury.
A sixth son, David Dore, remained in Kerry and married Mary Allen.
Cornelius Dore Jr and Maurice’s daughter, Norah Joy, emigrated to Queensland where they married in 1885.
They used the name Dower. I would dearly love to find where Cornelius Sr and Johanna Dore are buried, as well as Maurice and Kate Joy. I am also desperate to find the names of the parents of all four of them.
Records seem to be limited, but surely some family members may know.
I would be grateful for any help in the research of my Irish heritage.
Yours
Pamela Marquardt (nee Dower) M. S. 189
