BALL WALL UPDATE: The “Turning of the Sod” took place in the sportsfield on Saturday afternoon by Minister Brendan Griffin, John Brassil, TD, and councillor Mike Kennelly. It is safe to say that all three of our public representatives were highly impressed with the turnout of club members both young and old and the support of the wider community. The pitch was a hive of activity for the two hours as younger players put their skills to the test, under the watchful eye of the senior players. Parents were able to relax with the refreshments on offer or browse the club gear which was on sale. Brendan Griffin paid tribute to the community spirit in Ballyduff in his speech and urged the committee to apply for more funding in the next round of the Sports Capital Grant to finish the project. The Ball Wall committee would like to thank everyone that supported the club and the ball wall initiative by attending the sod turning event. Castle claimed their first West Kerry ‘Cup’ at this age group since 2004 with a comprehensive win in Gallarus on Sunday afternoon. Playing with the aid of a strong wind, Castle took the lead early on with scores from Conor O’Leary, Maurice O’Connell and Cian Cronin. A goal from a 45 by Cian O’Grady put the visitors in a commanding position and another goal by Adam Costello saw Castle lead by 2-11 to 0-5 at the break. Costello added 2 more goals in the second half to complete his hat trick and further points from cian Cronin, Thomas O’Donnell, Conor O’Leary and Maurice O’Connell saw Castle run out comfortable winners in the end. It was a well deserved win for Castle and they had star performers all over the pitch starting in goals with the rock solid Conor Greaney. The backs defended well as a unit and didn’t allow Gaeltacht any easy scoring opportunities. The Costello’s and Thomas O’Donnell won a huge amount of ball around the middle and fed the razor sharp Castle forwards with a great supply. Well done lads.
