VITHIT KERRY SCHOOLGIRLS LEAGUE

SCHOOLGIRLS soccer is the fastest growing sport in the country and this is certainly the case in Kerry.

This season we will have twenty-two girls teams playing in the league and it kicked off at the weekend.

The League is delighted to welcome St Brendans Park Under 16 into the Girls League and is delighted to see girls soccer in Tralee. While they went down to a more experienced Inter Kenmare Under 16 side they certainly showed plenty of promise.

Emily Crowe got their historic first goal. However, Inter with the always excellent Chloe Cremin hitting four goals and Orla O’Brien and Kate Cronin getting one each they took the points.

Laurie Adams and Sarah Taylor also had good games for Inter while Lauren Dowling, Caoimhe Moore, Jasmine Ryle, Ellie Sugrue, Dakota Carter and Alex McNamara all had good games for the Park.

Killarney Athletic also got their Under 16 Girls campaign off to a winning start as they defeated Fenit 3-0.

Dervla Jeffers and Katie Dwyer had good games for Fenit. Athletic took the win with goals from Pia Hickey and Eimear Cronin with Lily Foley having a very good game.

In the Under 12 Girls Premier Killarney Celtic White had goals from Naoise O’Donoghue and Eve Culhane, Casey Mullroy and Lara O’Neill in their win over Camp with Amber McIndoe outstanding on the left wing.

The game was tighter than the score line suggests with Celtic having to put together some very good passing movements to get the breakthrough. Suvi O’Connor got the goal for Camp who had good performances from Saoirse McCarthy, Roisin Evans and Aisleigh Horan.

It is great to see that MEK have two girls teams at Under 12 and their Kickerz side got off to a winning start defeating Fenit 6-3. Sinead O’Sullivan had a great day hitting four goals for the Mid and East Kerry side with Izzy McGrath and Grainne Kelliher also on the score-sheet.

For Fenit Meah Carmody hit two and Grace Reilly got the other while with Sarah O’Sullivan having a good game in goal.
