FAI JUNIOR CUP 2ND ROUND

Castleisland 1

Fenit Samphires 1 (Castleisland won 5-4 on penalties)

THIS was always going to be a close tie but like they have done so many times in the past the home side etched out a win. It was a tough physical game in which the referee made some controversial decisions which displeased both sides.

Castleisland went ahead in the 12th minute with a Aidan O’Callaghan header, but Fenit equalised in the 83rd minute to take the game to extra time. With no score in extra time it went to a shoot-out.

Castleisland goalie Stephen Bartlett was the hero in the penalty shoot out making a couple of great saves to ensure his side got over the line with their noses in front.

Killorglin 9 Bunratty Cratloe (Clare) 2

KILLORGLIN are in the hat for the next round after an emphatic win over Clare side Bunratty/Cratloe.

Striker Dave Coffey was in explosive form with four first half goals in the 1st, 15th, 20th and 29th minutes and the game was over as a contest at half-time. Dylan O’Sullivan completed a hat-trick in the second half and debutant Eoin Clifford grabbed a brace of goals.

His brother Jamie also made his debut for the side along with Anthony Abogunrin and they both played very well when introduced. While Killorglin will be delighted with the result they know sterner tests lie ahead but this great win will boost their confidence for the next round.

CG Killarney 1 Listowel Celtic 4

CG gave a good account of themselves against Listowel Celtic and went ahead with a John Foley goal after being set up by Stephen Hayes. However Listowel Celtic turned in a strong second half performance and romped to victory in comfortable fashion.

Ashley Kelliher 2, Jo Jo Grimes and Brendan Angland scored for the winners. Best for CG were Mike Murphy, Gary Cassidy and Andrew O’Sullivan.
