COMMUNITY ALERT

The local branch of Community Alert will meet tomorrow night, Thursday, October 4th at Lisselton School. Time: 8.00pm. New members welcome.

Ballydonog­hue/Lisselton CCE AGM took place Friday 28th September. There was a large crowd in attendance. A review of the year was read out from all officers on the night. Once again it proved to be a very successful year. Highlighti­ng the success of twenty young musicians who won the Munster U12-15 Grupaí Cheoil and qualifying to this year’s All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Drogheda. Also to Emma Heffernan and Deirbhle O’Carroll on qualifying in their solos. Congratula­tions was extended to Conor Heaphy who took 3rd in the U1518 Fiddle.

Membership and the number of entries for Fleadh Cheoil,Sult na nÓg and Ceoil an Geimhreadh were up on last year.The chairperso­n Liz McNamara thanked the very dedicated committee, music, dancing and singing teachers. She made a special mention of the working members and parents for their loyal support and dedication at different branch events during the year. The year’s success was down to the hard work, commitment and passion that everyone put in. This is why Ballydonog­hue/ Lisselton branch of Comhaltas continues to grow. Also congratula­tion to Aoife Trench on being selected to play with this year’s Macalla na hÉireann 2018 Concert Tour of Ireland.This is great for the branch, having a member play with the top up and coming young musicians of Ireland. We wish Aoife all the best on the tour.

John Stack congratula­ted the U12 mixed set dancers who will be going to Dublin on the 10th October taking part in Ríl Deal. This is a new program on TG4 that will be coming to our screen later on in the year. Election of officers for 2018/19 took place and the following personnel were elected: Chairperso­n, Liz McNamara,Secretary, Miriam Costello,Treasurer, John Nolan, PRO Katie McNamara Purcell, Vice Chairperso­n Helen O’Neill, Assistant Treasurer, Niamh Barry, Assistant Secretary, Mairead Laide, Treorí na Gailge, Karen Tranch, Child Protection Officer, Paula Falvey, Auditor, Noel Fennel, Youth Officers, Róisín Kissane, Caoimhe Barry. Delegates to the County Board, Catherine Madden, Verona MacKessy, Helen O’Neill. Ceoil an Geimhreadh entries must be with branch Secretary by 19th October.

All membership should now be paid for the coming year. This is important before the County AGM. Tickets for Comhaltas Tour of Ireland taking place on Thursday 18th October in Our Lady Of Lourdes Church, Kilcummin, starting at 8pm. Tickets can be booked from Miriam the branch secretary.

The BPM committee is putting the final touches to the 2018 edition of Ballydonog­hue Parish Magazine and appeal to anyone who wants to submit a tribute to loved ones to do so as soon as possible. E-mail to magazine@ ballydonog­hue.net helped fund local tidy towns work and projects undertaken throughout the year.

As Ballylongf­ord Post Office unfortunat­ely closed 2 weeks ago, a large number of the Ballylongf­ord community are now using the Post Office in Tarbert and have been enquiring as to what services are available, customers can avail of banking services AIB cash lodgments, withdrawal­s, cheque lodgement and credit card payment. Ulster bank customers can lodge cash. Sterling & Dollars are in stock with no need to pre order; the Post Office offers bill payment for example EIR, Airtricity, Bord Gais, Savings, Investment­s, One4all gift cards, Garda fine payments & Local Property Tax. The post in the Ballylongf­ord post box is collected daily (Monday to Friday) at the same time as usual.
