BEREAVEMENT

Sympathies are extended to the family of John Carroll, Witham, Essex & late of Banemore.

John played full back in the first Kilmoyley Minor Championship victory of 1953. He emigrated to London with his family in the mid-fifties but remained a great Gael throughout his lifetime. He returned regularly to Kerry for family occasions, Championship games and holidays. He attended the opening of Kilmoyley Sportsfield in 2000. Over the years he travelled to the Pattern Mass in Ballyheigue on 33 occasions. In latter years he became a great fan of Radio Kerry listening to our Gaelic Games, Sports results and Irish music. He is pre deceased by his wife Nora.

TIDY TOWNS

The reports from the National Tidy Towns competition were published last week and Kilmoyley has been awarded an incredible thirteen additional marks bringing its total up to 286 marks for its work in 2018! This result pushes us up to fifth in Category A, which consists of fifteen parishes. The judge’s report describes the Kilmoyley application as being “almost certainly the most colourful entry that this adjudicator has seen all year”. It gives a comprehensive appraisal of several public spaces and notes how having cycled around Kilmoyley on a beautiful day in July, the hard work of the community was clearly evident. The report commends a variety of different aspects of the work of Tidy Towns Kilmoyley from the litter picks, to the murals, to the natural maintenance of the hedgerows, to the roadside appeal of individual homes. Describing the people of Kilmoyley as being “a house-proud lot”, the judge ended the report by stating, “You bring a good humour and positive outlook to your participation in Tidy Towns.

GARDEN COMPETITION

Judge Linda Baker presented nominees with Tidy Towns rosettes for their achievement in the following four categories: best hanging basket, best window box, best floral display and best overall front garden. Top winner on the night of Best Overall Garden went to Mike Lawlor.
