BEREAVEMENTS

The passing of Matthew (Matty) Quinn R.I.P. Asdee Village and late of the Mail Road, Moyvane was received with sadness and disbelief on Monday 1st October last. Matty as he was more affectionately and widely known was a very kind and humorous man who was very popular not alone in this community but indeed his popularity spread far and wide and this was never more transparent with the large crowds that attended his removal and requiem mass. Matty had worked very hard since his return from England in the late 60’s. He built and renovated many houses and buildings in the community, he was involved in heavy transport with lorries, and of course later in life he was very much involved in the Phone business with his son Jim in Listowel. However, behind all of his work he also liked to socialise and liked to have a bit of recreation as well. A gifted musician, he enjoyed all types of music especially traditional and enjoyed playing the side flute with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle and was a great lover of fishing and water sports so much so that he was a very influential member of the Ballylongford Boat Club. A man of many, many talents whose loss will be very severely felt by his family, relatives and friends and it is to his son Jimmy, daughters Helen, Siobhan, Carmel and Shirley. Brother Tom and sister Peg, grand children Lisa, Ciara, Lauren, Megan, Zach and Samuel and great-grandchildren Darragh and Emma. Daughter in law Nuala, sons in law Vincent, Anthony and Sebastian. His nephews, nieces, cousins, family relative’s wide circle of friends and neighbours that we offer our sincere sympathy at this time of great loss. Matty’s remains reposed at Lynch’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Ballylongford on Tuesday 2nd October from 5.00pm with removal at 7pm to St Mary’s Curch, Asdee. Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday morning at 11am with funeral afterwards to Lislaughtin Abbey Cemetery, Ballylongford. Sympathy is also extended to the Stack Family of Tullahinell on the sad passing of Patrick (Paddy) Stack R.I.P. who died early last week in the U.S.A. Also sympathy is extended to the family of the late Patrick (Patsy) Mahony R.I.P. late of Coolbeha, who passed from us on Monday 1st October last. Ar dheis dea go raibh a hAinm dilis.

LENAMORE ROVERS

Our season began in Lenamore on Sunday 30th of September. We went down 8-3 to Kilmoyley. The boys were down 5- 0 at half time but on a positive note won the 2nd half 3-2. Two goals from Ken Foley and a fantastic strike from Sean Hanrahan to chip the goalkeeper. The pitch is in great nick with special mention going to Newtown Sands Coop for their kind sponsorship of fertiliser during the summer and Johnny “Block” has maintained the cutting of the pitch. Other volunteers include Joe McCarthy, Liam Foran and Mike “Ruffin” Higgins who helped get the pitch ready for the season. If any player would like to register and play the coming season they can contact Tony Fennell (Chairman) on 086 8340475. We are currently collecting bags of unused clothes to raise funds for the club or phone Steve Donegan on 087 7720302 (PRO) and we can arrange collection.
