Jimmy Buckley gig to boost funds for church refurbishment

-

BROSNA, or rather its citizens, would appear to have found another musical niche for the village.

Another, I say with great care and a high awareness of the late Con Curtin’s place in the folklore and musical history there and in the Sliabh Luachra area in general.

The resurgence of ‘Country Music’ throughout Ireland has not been lost on the people of Brosna.

The fundraisers among them are onto the new wave with great purpose and blessings in abundance.

The John Murphy chaired church committee has a couple of mid-summer gigs under its belt already.

Last July’s Friday 13th night with Lisa McHugh and Mike Denver encouraged them to book the big tent again for more of the same on the village square for summer 2019.

Commenting on the success of the event a delighted chairman Murphy said that they were overwhelmed with the support they got from all quarters.

“We got support from everyone here at home and from all our neighbouring parishes around. Whether it was by stocking and selling the tickets or by attending on the night itself we were delighted with the support we got,” said John.

These events are being organised as fund-raisers for the refurbishment and upkeep of the Brosna churches, St. Cartage’s in the village and the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in nearby Knockaclarig.

Summer 2019 is a long while away. However, in the meantime the committee has booked country star, Jimmy Buckley for a November 17th date in the Church of St. Carthage in Brosna and that’s expected be a complete and fast sell-out – and the tickets are now on sale.

Doors will open at 7pm and the show will start at 8pm.

“Ticket went on sale after last weekend’s masses and the remainder will be sold next weekend at masses in both Brosna and Knockaclarig. As we have only 500 to sell we expect that they’ll go fairly fast,” said Mr. Murphy.
