Workers hit the route of the Listowel Bypass as site investigations begin
ENGINEERS and archaeologists are beginning crucial investigations along the route of the planned bypass at present as the project progresses.
Ground invesitgation works are now getting underway ahead of construction of the 5.95km-long project, which got the green light from An Bord Pleanála nearly a year ago.
Meanwhile, negotiations are still underway in regard to the CPO process, also greenlit last year by the Bord. None of the 90+ landowners affected has yet received a payout, The Kerryman understands.
Kerry County Council informed The Kerryman this week that notices of entry have now been served on all landowners. It’s a step that must be taken before an official can lawfully enter privately held land.
It’s also now hoped that the tender for construction will be published in the middle of next year, with late 2021 cited as a completion date, all going according to plan.
Cathaoirleach of the Listowel District Aoife Thornton is keen to raise awaress of the commencing site investigation works. “Enginners are taking to the route at the moment just to let people know if they see officials out surveying. If anyone has any concerns or queries they can contact me directly or the roads design office of Kerry County Council,” she said.
A spokesperons for the Council meanwhile said the Authority is negotiating with landowners with ‘a view to acquiring the land as expeditiously as possible.’
