MCELLIGOTT OIL ASDEE UNDER 16 FC FINAL

Ballyduff 4-12 Listowel Emmets 3-5

A FINE crowd turned up to Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane for the Under 16 Championship Final on Sunday morning last.

This fine Ballyduff team had an enviable record coming into the game of having never lost a game in North Kerry Coiste na nÓg competitions, but Emmets who had only gone down by a point in the league semi-final earlier in the year, were determined to do their best to upset the odds.

Seamus Mulvihill threw the ball in and it was Ballyduff who started the best and indeed dominated the play throughout the first half. All present were treated to a virtuoso performance from Ballyduff captain, Kevin Goulding.

In a phenomenal display of accuracy, he kicked 1-10 of his side’s first half tally of 1-11, the other point coming from Dylan Moriarty. Emmets scored 1-1 in the half, the point from Jack McElligott and a great goal scored by Niall Lynch after a lovely move.

Emmets made several changes at the interval, but Ballyduff continued where they left off and had the ball in the net twice inside the opening five minutes, through Kevin Goulding and the diminutive Tommy O’Connor to put clear distance between the sides.

It would have been easy for Emmets to throw in the towel at this point but to their credit, they refused to stop playing, and were to score 2-3 in the next 20 minutes, while keeping Ballyduff scoreless.

Niall Lynch goaled again, points from Darragh Lynch, Darragh Carey and Cillian Rodriguez and a well taken penalty by Dylan Quinn left seven points between the sides.

This was as close as Emmets would get as Aidan O’Connor netted for Ballyduff and Andrew Murphy pointed before Darragh Lynch pointed the last score of the game to leave the final score at Ballyduff 4-12 Emmets 3-5.

Tom Moran NKB thanked McElligott Oils Asdee for their generous sponsorship of Coiste na nÓg, Moyvane for their fine facility and Seamus Mulvihill, St Senans and officials for doing a great job, before presenting Ballyduff captain Kevin Goulding with the Under 16 championship trophy to scenes of delight.

Well done on a remarkable achievement.
