NORTH KERRY SFC ROUND 1

Asdee 2-5 Finuge 1-12

A FINE crowd turned up in Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel for this first round game under lights, last Wednesday night.

A minute’s silence was observed prior to commencement in memory of Paul Wallace and Mattie Quinn. On a cold evening, this game took a while to warm up. The score was four points to two in Asdee’s favour after 26 minutes.

Eoin Kennedy then netted soccer style to put his side five points to the good, before Gary Hogan pointed his side’s third free of the half on the stroke of half-time to leave the scoreboard Asdee 1-4 Finuge 0-3.

There was a whiff of an upset in the air and little changed in the first ten minutes of the second half as both sides exchanged points. Another free from Hogan and a lovely long range effort from Asdee’s captain, John Doran.

Finuge had not scored from play at this stage, but they exploded to life in the next four minutes scoring 1-3 without reply, all from play (Darragh Shanahan 1-0, Jason Wallace 0-2, Ricky Heffernan 0-1).

Eoin Tydings fisted a high dropping ball to the net in the 16th minute to restore Asdee’s lead but they were not to score again as Finuge finished strongly, led by the excellent Pat Corridan, scoring five points in the last ten minutes to become the seventh team in the hat for the quarter-final draw.
