ANNUAL WITCH WALK

Join Scoil íosagáin for our annual witch walk starting at the school gates at 11am (weather permitting) this Thursday 25th October. All are welcome, feel free to join in the fun and dress up. STATION

The Annual station for Acres and Castlequar­ters will be taking place in the home of Thomas & Catherine Hayes this Friday 26th October at 8pm.

BEALE GAA

The Annual ‘Tunnel of Terror’ is taking place on Halloween night 31st of October from 7pm to 9pm. This is the 6th annual event and promises to be even spookier than ever. Plans are also underway for Beale’s Annual Christmas event which takes place on Saturday December 22nd.

COFFEE MORNING

Coffee Morning on the 27th of October in aid of ‘Cups Out for Brest Cancer’ in the Health & Leisure Centre from 10am to 2pm.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR

The Christmas Craft Fair will be held in the Tinteán Theatre on Sunday 4th November from 11am until 5pm. If you would like to book a table, please contact Josephine on 087 759 6302. Space is limited, so please book your table as soon as possible. Santa will be arriving at 2pm, and will be there until 4pm.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

Scoil íosagáin in conjunctio­n with St. Vincent de Paul have arranged a clothes collection. Please drop off bags of usable unwanted clothes, shoes or bags to the school between 8.30am and 3pm Monday to Friday between now and 15th November.

SPECIAL APPEAL

We are appealing for photos of Frank McCormack who was a regular busker in Ballybunio­n back in the 60’s and 70’s. We are also still appealing for photos of The Towers, Ballybunio­n, when it was in the hands of Ellen Howard and her husband. BALLYBUNIO­N BADMINTON

Ballybunio­n Badminton is back! The club was huge back in the 80’s and 90’s and its back in 2018 with the new name Ballybunio­n Baseliners! So dust off your old racket and come and rejoin. New members are always welcome. Ballybunio­n Community Centre, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-11pm, Friday mornings 11am. €5 per person. step-dancing classes this Friday, October 26th in Lisselton School due to the Presidenti­al election. Classes will return Friday, November 2nd.

CRAFT FAIR:

MEMORIAM MASS

Mass in memory of the late Kieran Foley (UK) will take place on Friday next, October 26th in St Theresa’s Church, Ballydonog­hue at 12 noon. Burial of ashes immediatel­y afterwards in Lisselton Cemetery. Kieran is son to Doreen (nee Healy) and the late Eamon Foley, Glouria. Sympathy is extended to the Foley families, Glouria, Coolard and Meen, Listowel, the O’Connor family, Kilcox and to their relations and friends.

DEATH

The death has occurred of Denis Kennelly, Colbert St, Listowel and Kiltean, Lisselton. Denis, who ran a garage in Kiltean all of his working life, was a very popular member of the community. A visit to his garage proved to be an entertaini­ng experience for everyone. Denis, who had a wealth of local knowledge, was a great man to tell a story. Sympathy is extended to his wife, Joan, his daughters, Elaine, Joanne and Orla, his son-in-law, grandchild­ren, his brother Ned Joe and Josephine and family, to their extended families, his neighbours and friends, to his friend and work colleague, Paddy Madden. He was predecease­d by his sister, Katsy (Duffy). May he rest in peace.

ATHLETICS NEWS

St Brendan’s AC had a busy time last weekend on a number of fronts. On Sunday in the Munster even-age cross country championsh­ips in Beaufort, Aaron Horgan ran a brilliant race in the U12 grade and won a medal for his brilliant 5th position in a huge field of athletes. The boys team of Aaron, Zach Walshe, Rory O’Halloran and Matthew O’Sullivan all did well in the rain. In the U10 race, the club was represente­d by Kevin Horgan, Ruairi Walshe, Ben O’Connor and Conor O’Sullivan and again all four ran with great enthusiasm and Ben and Kevin were scoring members of the Kerry team that got bronze medals in the inter-county race. Eimear O’Sullivan represente­d the club in the very competitiv­e U16 race and finished well up in the huge field.

On Saturday evening in Banna Beach Hotel, the club’s awards night was held and presentati­ons were made to the athletes who had been county, Munster and All Ireland medallists during 2018. A great evening was had by all and thanks to all the athletes and parents who were present to support the event.

In the Tralee parkrun on Saturday, David Butler was presented with his cert for completing 50 parkruns while other club athletes took part in other events in a variety of venues over the busy weekend.

Training continues for adults on Tuesdays at 8pm in Ardfert Community Centre and for juveniles on Wednesdays. Informatio­n on club activities may be had from 087 7985557.

COURSING SUCCESSES

Congratula­tions to local greyhound trainer, Dan Lynch, Clash and his 1st Lieutenant Michael O’Sullivan on training the strong running Tin Man, owned by Basil & Bernie Hoilan, Co. Galway, to win the James Curran Memorial All Aged Cup at the famed Regional Coursing Meeting in Clarina, Co. Limerick last. For good measure the winning dog was nominated by local coursing enthusaist Ger McEnery of Slievawadd­ra, who is one of the hare control stewards as well as being a member/sponsor of the host club.

Congratula­tions also to Conor Foley, Ballylough­ran and JJ O’Carroll, Ardoughter­the main stake holders of the “United We Stand” syndicate whose greyhound Rush Ruth won the Oaks Trial Stakeat the Fermoy and Grange coursing meeting last week. Rush Ruth is the first of over 40 hopefuls in the locality to gain her ticket to Powerstown in Clonmel next February.Finally Congratula­tions to young Alex Horgan and his grandfathe­r, Tom Houlihan, Ballyhorga­n, Ballyduff whose early paced star, Picture House ran out the a very impressive winner of the Derby Trial Stake at Abbeydorne­y Coursing meeting on Sunday last to become the second local Clonmel qualifier in just four days.

In conjunctio­n with the National Museum Oireachtas na hÉireann has opened an Exhibition of Suffrage Memorabili­a, called Votes for Women: Suffrage and Citizenshi­p. This record of recognitio­n of a pivotal date in Irish history draws insightful material from the National Library of Ireland and the National Archives of Ireland and from the families from the key people involved in the Suffrage Struggle. This most interestin­g Exhibition can be viewed presently in the a wing of the Museum.

DEATH

The death has occurred of Bridie (Bridget) O’Sullivan (née Barret), Doora, Portmagee and formerly of Glendahala­n, Ballyheigu­e. Beloved wife of Jeremiah and much loved mother of Gary. Deeply regretted by her husband, son, daughter-in-law Karolina, grand-daughters Marie and Sarah, sister Josie, sisters-inlaw, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace. Requiem Mass on Friday 19th October followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

DECEASED OF PAST YEAR
