GREEN FLAG

Local school Duagh NS is now in the 2nd year of the process of earning the 5th Green Flag award.Its theme of biodiversi­ty will be integrated into the various curricular studies throughout the year.

On Thurs Oct.18th the school had a Wear Green Day and a wildlife biologist visited the school.All staff and pupils were encouraged to wear a Green item.

Also daffodil bulbs were planted so hopefully these will bloom in spring. The school will close on Thurs Oct.25th for mid term break (Friday Oct 26th is polling day) and reopen on Monday Nov 5th.

Duagh NS through Team Hope organises a Christmas Box collection each year for needy children of far off lands and that time is with us again.If you wish to be involved please contact the school or fill a shoe box with relevant little gifts (no books) include 4 euros for transport and send to school.A few more weeks remain for this.

CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL

Duagh NS having recently retained the North Kerry title in the Cumann na mBunscol competitio­n went on to defeat Currow NS in the county semi final last week and will now play Faha NS in the count final this week.Well done to all.

COISTE PRESENTATI­ON

Duagh coiste na nÓg held its end of year presentati­on night. Huge well done to all the committee and coaches and thanks to Anthony Maher and Paul Walsh for making the presentati­ons, signing jerseys and staying for pictures. Thanks to Noel from Kilcara Nursing Home for his presentati­on of jerseys to our u 16 team.Thanks to Tommy Mac for the music, Emma and Shannon for the face painting, Doreen and Dave for the photos and all the parents for all the refreshmen­ts. STEPS TO HEALTH

Last Monday word came through from National Community Games that we had won the Gold standard in our quest with the Steps to Health. This is a programme that we ran throughout the year and held a big event at our annuals sports evening which was a huge success. We are extremely delighted and proud to have won this and it was not possible without the help of our healthy event team, our participan­ts, parents and supporters.

COUNTY AWARDS NIGHT

Last Friday evening all roads led to Castleisla­nd at the River Island hotel where the Annual County Community Games awards night was held. Duagh/ Lyre had great representa­tion at the event and were delighted to win three awards. First up was John Bunyan who won a special recognitio­n award for his service to Kerry Community Games, our PRO Liz Twomey was awarded 1st in the PRO category and our next award was 2nd in Overall participat­ion which was received by our chairperso­n Geraldine McNamara. Music on the night was provided our very own National gold medal winners Oisín and Daibheád O’Regan and they rocked the hotel with a rendition of Guns and Roses - Sweet child of mine. Thanks to all our participan­ts during the year these awards were received on your behalf and we will have our own awards night in early 2019.

ORDINATION

On Saturday 27th October at 11.00 a.m. Mass in St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeydorne­y Francis White will be ordained as Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Kerry by Bishop Ray Browne. Refreshmen­ts afterwards in Abbeydorne­y Community Hall. Everyone welcome.

SOCIAL SET DANCING

Dancing takes place on Monday nights in St. Columbus Centre, Kilflynn from 9pm. Quick steps, waltzes and all two-hand dances, followed by tea/coffee, cake, and chat. All welcome.

MASS Celebratin­g Special Wedding Anniversar­ies will take place in St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeydorne­y on Sunday 11th November at 10.00 a.m. All couples in the parish celebratin­g significan­t anniversar­ies this year (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th, 50th and every year over 50), should submit their names and the wedding date to the Parish Office before 20th October. Couples, living outside the parish, who got married in Abbeydorne­y or Kilflynn Church, are also invited to this celebratio­n. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards.

JUNIOR CLUB CAMOGIE FINAL

Clanmauric­e will face Crecora of Limerick in the Munster Junior Club Camogie Final at Newcastle West on this Sunday, 28 October at 2pm. Best of luck to the Crotta players Aoife Behan, Jackie Horgan and Megan Weir, their Clanmauric­e teammates and their mentors.
