CROKES TRIUMPH IN COUNTY FINAL

MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Dr Crokes winning captains since 2010

- BY JASON O’CONNOR

THE name of the new Kerry Minor Football manager is expected to be announced very shortly with the announcement of Peter Keane’s successor likely to be announced in the coming days Kerry GAA Chairman Tim Murphy confirmed to The Kerryman on Tuesday.

Mr Murphy declined to comment on who the name going forward for ratification at the next County Committee Meeting will be as the process was still to be completed at time of print.

Five-time All-Ireland winner and current mentor with Tralee CBS’s Corn Uí Mhuirí side Marc Ó Sé has emerged as a potential candidate for the role alongside his former inter-county team-mates Declan O’Sullivan and Johnny Crowley who had been initially mooted as the early favourites for the role.

O’Sullivan was a selector with Jack O’Connor when he was involved in the 2015 All-Ireland Minor winning side and was also a selector with him in the last two Kerry U-21 sides of 2016 and 2017.

Crowley, meanwhile, worked as a selector with O’Connor in this year’s new Under 20 side.

Current Kerry Under 16 Squad Development Manager James Costello of St Pats is also thought to be a candidate. Costello was involved in the curtain-raiser to last Sunday’s County Final which saw a showcase game involving players from the Under 16 Development Squads split in Kerry ‘Green’ and Kerry ‘Gold’ sides.

It is expected that the name to go forward as manager for ratification at the next County Committee Meeting on Monday, November 26 will be announced initially, while the full management team is likely to be announced closer to the meeting.

Elsewhere Mr Murphy said that any alterations to the grounds at Austin Stack Park in light of the controversial incident at the recent Dingle versus East Kerry County Senior Football Championship replay which saw Dingle selector Colm Geaney hit with an eight week ban after striking East Kerry’s Dara Moynihan are still being considered by the county’s Management Committee.

“We haven’t had a chance as a Management Committee to sit down and discuss the issue [ground works]. We normally do a review of the year around this time and I imagine potential alterations will become part of such a discussion, but we must assess what is needed first,” the County Chairman said.

The positioning of the dugouts at the Tralee venue was considered a major factor in the incident which drew an awful lot of commentary on social media around the country.

Dingle declined the opportunity to speak to the media in the aftermath of last Sunday’s defeat to Dr Crokes in the County Senior Football Final.
