Good luck with the ‘republic of equality’
SIR, I must tell you how delighted I am to learn that our new-old President, Michael D. Higgins, has declared that he will now focus on creating “a republic of equality”.
The President himself is given – to say nothing of the really massive perks – more than three hundred grand a year, while I at the moment have to get by on only a small fraction of that. So I can only say to him that I wish him every imaginable success in realising his very exciting, if indeed from a declared socialist somewhat overdue, goal as soon as at all possible!
