FOLLOWING on from Cashen Vale’s Kori Goad’s bronze medal win at the European Junior Boxing Championships in Anapa Russia recently, the action switched to St. Josephs Community Centre Bishopwater, Co. Wexford last weekend, where hundreds of European fighters went head-to-head over three days of competition at the Wexford International Box-Cup.

In the semi-final last Saturday, Cashen Vale’s Aaron McElligot celebrated a third round stoppage over Luke Geraghty of the Esker Boxing Club and went on to record a majority points victory in the final next day over Michael Moffitt of St Mary’s Boxing Club New Ross. Aaron McElligot is a National Schoolboy champion and was one fight from bronze at the European Juniors last year.

Elsewhere, the following Cashen Vale Boxers competed in the Vikings boxing club Tournament in Abbeyfeale last Sunday: Nickie O’Brien, Donnacha Sayers, Shonagh O’Mahoney, Ainle Foley, Aoife Stack, Kori Goad and Sean Stack.

Well done to all seven boxers on returning home medal-laden with six gold and one silver from their first away tournament of the new boxing season.
