Goals seal it for Kilcummin

PLAYED in Kilcummin on Saturday, the home side had a workmanlike victory over Listry, in this O’Donoghue Cup quarter-final.
Kilcummin led by 1-3 to 0-0 after seven minutes – the goal from Sean O’Leary after a strong run through the defence. Listry reduced the lead with points from Joseph Clifford and Anthony Sweeney – 1-6 to 0-5 after 20 minutes.
Pádraig Nagle kept the Kilcummin scoreboard ticking over before a strong run by Anthony Kennedy saw him point for Listry. The response from Kilcummin was emphatic. Ian Devane, slipped his marker and rifled the ball to the net. Kilcummin 2-7 Listry 0-7 at half-time.
Early in second half, Listry added points from Anthony Kennedy, Joseph Clifford and Anthony Sweeney – 2-7 to 0-10. Kilcummin settled with points from Chris O’Leary and Noel Duggan.
Brendan Kealy converted a long range free – 2-11 to 0-11 on 40 minutes. Listry launched high balls in, but the hard-working Kilcummin defence, was ever alert and cleared their lines.
Philip Casey pushed the scoreboard to 2-13 to 0-12 approaching the full-time whistle. A Jimmy O’Leary rasper drifted over the bar. Listry’s Billy O’Brien won the kick out and lofted another ball into the danger area. O’Leary was awarded a free, pointed by Antony Sweeney.
The Aquila Club man of the match award went to Kilcummins Philip Casey.
