Super Crokes deservedly retain their county crown

County Board PRO Leona Twiss with all the GAA news

-

LAST Sunday the curtain came down on this year’s Garvey’s SuperValu SFC with the crowning of Dr Crokes as the 2018 Champions.

The day was a wonderful occasion from start to finish. Dingle gave a brilliant account of themselves and just came up short against a better team on the day. No doubt there will be better days ahead for this talented side.

Dr Crokes are an unbelievable side whose record speaks for itself. The game finished Dr Crokes 1-15, Dingle 0-12. The Man of the Match was awarded to Gavin White. This victory moves Dr Crokes to the top of Kerry’s roll of honour with 13 titles. We congratulate Dr Crokes and wish them every success in their Munster campaign.

The exhibition game at 1pm between the Under 16 development squad players was very entertaining and the large crowd in attendance showed great support to the young players.

The game showcased the tremendous work carried out by the Development Squads coaches. Our thanks to Donal Daly, Terence Houlihan, the coaches and the GDAs for arranging this game.

Kerry Coiste na nÓg produced an excellent match programme for the County Final. This is the main fundraiser for Coiste na nÓg and the funds are needed to continue their amazing work with underage football and hurling in this county. Congratulations to programme editor Jimmy Darcy and his team.

It was also a very important day for the people of Killorglin as Laune Rangers were the team honoured at half time having won the County Final in 1993 beating Annascaul 1–15 to 1-8. Laune Rangers PRO Aidan Clifford did a great job compiling the information on the team and management and as MC on the day.

Since 2012 we have been entertained by the musical talents of the Killorglin and District pipe band and Sunday was no different, without question they really added to the atmosphere on County Final day.

Our thanks to Garvey’s Supervalu for their sponsorship of the football and hurling championships along with the Man of the Match trophy and a voucher for the Skellig Hotel Dingle, all the stewards who volunteer on the day, the Austin Stack Park committee, the match officials, the gates people, the media and everyone who contributed to making the county final a success.

Kerry GAA Store

FORMER Kerry footballer, Seán O’Sullivan, has been appointed manager of The Kerry GAA Store in succession to Niall O’Callaghan.

The four-time All Ireland medal holder needs little introduction to the Kerry faithful and no doubt he will bring the same energy to the job that he displayed on the playing fields.

The Kerry GAA Store, which is located in the Outlet Centre in Killarney, opened for business in 2013 and since then it has been supplying exclusive Kerry GAA merchandise to Kerry football and hurling followers both at home and abroad.

All profits from the Store go directly towards the training of Kerry inter-county teams in all grades. We wish Sean the very best of luck in his new appointment. We would also like to sincerely thank Niall O’Callaghan for his outstanding contribution to the success of the Store over the past four and a half years and we wish him every success in the future.

Last Monday, the new Allianz League gear was launched in the GAA store Killarney by Peter Keane and a number of Kerry Senior Footballers and Hurlers. These items are exclusive to the store in Killarney and online on the Kerry GAA website.

LAST Thursday night in the Currans Centre of Excellence the Division 1 Finals of the Under 15 Super Touch Competition were played.
