Both sides were missing a number of players for this opening round of the under 21 championship played at O’Rahilly Park Ballylongford. Ballydonoghue who would be favourites for this competition were the early pacesetters and three first half goals from Jack Foley Darragh Sheehy and Jack Behan set them on their way in a high scoring open game. Bally/Asdee who got off to a poor start began to get into the game and Darragh Keane who was making some strong runs from centre forward got in for a goal after linking up with Ciaran O’Connor leaving the half time score Ballylongford/Asdee/ 1-7 Ballydonoghue 3-8
Ciaran O’Connor continued his scoring form with three quick points to narrow the gap to five points but Ballydonoghue were soon back scoring goals and netted a further three by the end of the third quarter.
The homeside never gave up and struck for two further goals in the closing stages from Darragh Keane and Liam Mulvihill but it was Balydonoghue who ran out deserving winners.
