last score of the half to leave the score reading Spa 1-07 to Scartaglen 0-03. Scartaglen stated the 2nd half brightly and had the deficit down to 3 points by the 37th minute with a goal from full forward David Riordan and a point from half forward Brian Hanrahan. It was to be Scartaglen’s last scores of the afternoon as Spa’s superior experience, fitness and gulf in divisions shone through as they would go on to win quite comfortable in the end. Michael O’Donoghue finishing the afternoon with 1-10.

Half forward Corie Doyle got Spa’s other goal and added a point as Ciaran Sheehan and Dara Moynihan also added to Spa’s tally in a win neither side on the day could read too much into. REIGNING Corn Ui Mhuiri holders Pobalscoil Corcha Dhuibhne got their new campaign off to a winning start in Kenmare last week as they had 14 points to spare over Skibbereen Community School. All-Ireland winning Minors Ruaidhri O Beaglaoich and Dylan O Geibheannaigh combined for the latter to score their first goal as although Elliott Connolly scored a goal for the West Cork School a fine goal by midfielder Tomas O Dubhain made it 2-6 to 1-3 to Corcha Dhuibhne after 15 minutes.

They maintained a double score lead of 2-10 to 1-5 at halftime as in total O Geibheannaigh (1-5) and O Beaglaoich (0-7, 1f) combined for 1-12 of their 2-18 total with Deividas Uosis scoring 0-3 (2f) in a 14-point success, 2-18 to 1-7.

The all Kerry encounter in Farranfore the following day between St Brendans College Killarney and Intermediate School Killorglin was a strange affair. It saw the Sem recovered from conceding the first seven points and not scoring for the first 26 minutes to keep their opposition scoreless in the second period and win by 10 points themselves!

Dara Casey, Eoin Clifford, Gabriel Griffin, Gearoid Hassett and Matthew Leslie had given Killorglin a bizarre 0-7 to 0-1 lead at the break with Darragh Donohoe St Brendans’ only scorer. Josh Fleming’s introduction was vital for the Sem in turning matters as was a positional switch between Michael Lenihan and Paul O’Shea as Fleming (1-2) and Lenihan (1-0) were the goalscorers in St Brendans completing a 17-point turnaround (2-11 to 0-7 the final score) at the finish as Emmet O’Shea scored two points for the victors.

Mercy Mounthawk Tralee tasted defeat in their game in Millstreet against Clonakilty meanwhile. Two Conor Hayes goals gave Clonakilty a 2-5 to 1-6 lead at half-time with Micheal O’Gara scoring Mounthawk’s goal and Donagh McMahon points keeping them in touch. The goal post prevented another goal for the Cork side in the second period, but at the other end Jack Sheehan and McMahon were denied chances of their own by good Clonakilty defending. A single goal separated the sides in the end, Clonakilty winning by 2-11 to 1-11.

Tralee CBS begin their campaign on November 14 against St Francis College Rochestown who defeated Colaiste Chriost Ri in the opening game of that group.
