Focus on mental health at resource centre
CASTLEISLAND Family Resource Centre will host two events which focus on Mental Health this November.
The first is a presentation by Jigsaw, ‘One Good Coach’, promoting young people’s mental health.
This one-hour presentation is aimed at ‘One Good Adult’ who coaches or trains young people in a wide variety of sports, and coaches are encouraged to attend if at all possible.
As a result of this presentation, participants will have a greater understanding of mental health and will have a greater understanding of the importance of their role as ‘One Good Adult/Coach’.
They will also have a greater awareness of how to promote and support young people’s mental health in their role as coach.
This is also an excellent opportunity to learn about Jigsaw and how young people can access the service.
The talk takes place on Tuesday, November 20, at 7pm.
Places are limited for this event, and booking is essential.
The second event is SafeTALK. SafeTALK is ‘suicide alertness for everyone’
‘SafeTALK’ is a half-day workshop which prepares you to be someone who helps prevent suicide. Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help out of their situation. Often these opportunities to help are missed, dismissed or avoided – leaving people more alone and at greater risk.
SafeTALK training prepares you to help by using the steps of TALK – Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe – to identify and engage with people who are contemplating suicide and to connect them with further help and care. ‘SafeTALK’ will take place on Monday, November 26, from 10am to 1.30pm.
Places are limited, and booking is essential. Closing date for applications for SafeTALK is November 12, 2018
