EAST KERRY GAA: YOUTH & EXPERIENCE

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

TRIBUTES have been pouring in for the late Maureen Kelliher who died last week.

The much loved mother of four from Headford in Killarney and late of Reen, Templenoe, was a well liked figure in the community.

She was a very proud mother to Roy, Aideen, Susan and Marc, and she always ferried them to whatever sport they were interested in and stood on the sidelines throughout.

One of her proudest moments was watching her son Marc in goal for the Kerry Minors earlier this year.

Maureen had been diagnosed with MS in 2016 but was determined to fight the illness valiantly and had done so. She never let her condition get her down. She vowed to shoulder on and she kept that positive note throughout.

“She was very determined and extremely positive and she would help you out in any way,” said close friend, Mary McCarrick.

Her death at the age of 47 years of age has shocked and saddened all who knew her.

Maureen was a founding member of Glenflesk Ladies GAA and a former secretary.

She was also involved with Killarney Celtic and they paid tribute to Maureen for her support as a club member, mother and friend.

Following her MS diagnosis, friends and family rallied around and a major fundraising drive took place to help adapt her home to allow Maureen to live a full life. The funds were also to help purchase an adapted car and Maureen was most grateful for the community support she received.

Following her removal to Barraduff church she was laid to rest in her native Templenoe last Saturday.
