Lizzy crowned the Listowel Food Fair Local Food Hero ‘18
THE extraordinary level of great foodie talent that exists in North Kerry was never more evident than at this year’s Listowel Food Fair - not least in the announcement that Lizzy Lyons of Lizzy’s Little Kitchen fame had clinched the title of Local Food Hero 2018.
Comforting chowders, succulent salads and great curries were cited as the mainstays of the LLK success story, in a business that now operates two outlets - in Ballybunion and on William St, Listowel - amid a massive, loyal customer base.
Lizzy said she was deeply ‘ humbled’ to have been named the Local Food Hero at the awards ceremony of the Fair in the Arms Hotel on Saturday night: “Words cannot express how delighted I am to be recognised by my local community. I am deeply humbled and would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who supports me personally and professionally.”
The mother of two-young boys, who regularly appears on the cookery slot on Virgin Media One’s Weekend AM show, first began realising her longheld dream when she opened LLK Ballybunion Pop Up in June 2015.
The massive public reaction to her nourishing and warming fare saw the Ballybunion eaterie winning a place in John and Sally McKenna’s Wild Atlantic Way guide in 2015/’16; as well as a best newcomer in the RAI Irish Restaurant Awards.
That was ever before the Listowel restaurant came along, in the summer of 2016. While the menu there changes daily, chowders, fresh salads and curries made from scratch remain the mainstays with diners returning in their droves daily to feast on Lizzy’s creations.
Lizzy’s ten favourite dishes have now been published in collaboration with Flogas Ireland for whom she was appointed a brand ambassador recently.
