Parties get set for local elections
FINE GAEL, SINN FÉIN AND FIANNA FÁIL CONVENTIONS TAKE PLACE SOON
THREE of the main parties will hold selection conventions in the coming weeks to pick their candidates for next year’s local elections.
Sinn Féin will hold selection conventions for the Tralee, Castleisland, Killarney, Kenmare and Listowel areas in the coming week.The Killarney and Kenmare area conventions this Thursday, November 15 at the Manor Inn Killorglin.
On Friday delegates in the Listowel electoral area will meet at the Listowel Arms Hotel to select candidates to run there.
Delegates from Tralee and the new Castleisland LEA will meet on Saturday at the River Island Hotel in Castleisland
The selection convention for the Dingle area is scheduled for Saturday December 8.
Fianna Fáil will also hold their conventions for Castleisland and Tralee this Thursday. There was expected to be a contest but Anne McEllistrim the sister of sitting councillor, Tom McEllistrim, has withdrawn from the race citing family reasons. This indicates that Cllr Norma Foley will go on the ticket for Tralee area Cllr Tommy McElistrim and Fionnán Fitzgerald will contest Castleisland. No date has yet been set for the other areas.
Fine Gael members will meet to pick candidates for the Listowel, Dingle and Castleisland electoral areas next month. The Dingle convention is December 3, the Castleisland convention-takes place on December 7 and the Listowel convention will be held on December 12.
Conventions to pick Fine Gael candidates in Tralee, Killarney and Kenmare won’t take place until early next year.
