Abbeyfeale ready to turn on their Christmas lights

- By KATHLEEN O’SULLIVAN

WHILE Santa is about to become very busy indeed travelling all over the world he is nonetheless preparing for a very special stop along the way in the Square in Abbeyfeale later this month.

Locals will be coming out in force to begin the festive celebrations on November 30 but to make the magic happen, the Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights group are looking for as much support as possible to help them - with Santa as special guest for the huge community occasion.

PRO of the Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights group Geraldine O’Brien said that the group is back bigger than ever and they hope to have everyone’s support with their fundraising.

“Abbeyfeale is a town to be proud of, with many of the local town and parish helping and giving donations to help,” Geraldine said.

The group are buying more new lighting features for the town for Christmas this year and are holding a range of fundraisers to help pay for them.

Fundraisers include a church gate collection this weekend, a pub quiz at Jack O’Rourke’s Bar this Sunday night at 6pm and a bag-packing at Twohigs Supervalu on November 23 and 24.

“As usual, we appreciate all the help and donations and are very grateful for the wonderful support given from all our local community,” Geraldine added.

And this all leads to the big night with the group’s guest of honour – Santa’s arrival to the Square at 6pm on Friday, November 30, with a magical evening promised for all.
