Keane and Stack to vie for GAA’s purse strings

Two nominations for vacant treasurer’s post

- BY PAUL BRENNAN

THE next treasurer of Kerry GAA will be either Tom Keane or Aileen Stack as both have been nominated to replace out-going treasurer Dermot ‘Weeshie’ Lynch at next month’s annual Convention.

Mr Lynch has to vacant the treasurer’s officership because of the five-year rule and at the time for nominations closing last Friday Keane and Stack were the only two names put forward.

The contest at county convention on December 10 will, in one sense, be a straight north versus south one with Aileen Stack a member of the Moyvane club, while Tom Keane comes from a strong GAA family in Cahersiveen.

Aileen Stack is presently the secretary of the Kerry GAA Finance Committee, having come on board with them this year.

She has 10 years experience with Kerry Coiste na nÓg, acting as PRO for a few years, and has conducted club officer training among other duties.

A chartered accountant by profession, she works with Revenue in Limerick city, but still lives in Moyvane, and maintains strong links with her local GAA club having started out with them as PRO.

Tom Keane is currently chairman of Coise na nÓg, but his five-year term in that position finishes this year and he must step down from that post.

Mr Keane played a leading role in Kerry hosting the national Féile Peil na nÓg in 2016, and is a brother of Kerry senior football manager Peter Keane.

Living in Kilcummin, but still a proud St Marys and Cahersiveen man, Tom Keane works as a bank official in Tralee.

Meanwhile, the Kerry senior hurlers will play All-Ireland champions Limerick, and Tipperary in the Munster Senior Hurling League in January.

Limerick and Tipperary will play their game before Christmas to facilitate the former going on their team holiday, while Kerry will play both in the new year, probably meeting Tipperary first in early January.

The top team from both three-team groups will contest the SHL final.
