Ballyduff chairman Ross delighted with performance

- BY TIMMY SHEEHAN

BALLYDUFF Chairman Liam Ross stressed the importance of winning competitions, pointing to the key ingredients of belief and character which was instrumental in this present group of players, being able to negotiate a win again in this final, somewhat against the odds.

“Eight to ten weeks we were without any hurling and I suppose Causeway were the same, but they must have been doing something. We came out in the second half, the boys knew what they had to do, it was nip and tuck all the way, and it just went with us at the finish,” Ross said. “We knew we had an uphill battle, but Ballyduff being Ballyduff, this group of players know how to win, and in fairness today they all came up trumps. Mikey and Padraig (Boyle) in the second half played mighty stuff.

“Paul Carroll I think did a lot of trojan work around the half forward line as well, carrying the ball through, but in fairness all the big guns that needed to stand up...Jack Goulding got four great scores in the second half.

“Anytime you win a county (title), and it’s county league at the end of the day, we will give it all the same respect as every other game. I know Causeway were on top of the League before the Championship started, and I suppose it isn’t fair that games are being played at this time of the year but that’s the way things are.

“I suppose winning a North Kerry Hurling Championship and a County League is good at the end of a season. In fairness to the boys they are preparing hard for the North Kerry Football Championship, they are in the semi-final, so who knows, we could be in another final before we know it again.”
