CLIMATE IN FOCUS

THERE was a large attendance at the National Dialogue for Climate Action at the Rose Hotel, Tralee last Saturday, November 10, with participan­ts travelling from Clare, Cork, Limerick and Kerry.

This regional meeting was organised by the Department of Communicat­ions, Climate Action and the Environmen­t. Transition Kerry, GLAN Tralee, Kerry Sustainabl­e Energy Co-operative were some of the local groups attending on the day, with Lisa Fingleton, local artist and local food activist, capturing the day with her art and drawings (see top right).

Following on from this event, there are some other upcoming Community Climate Action Events in Kerry in November 2018. On November 22 Tara Shine will give a talk at Siamsa Tíre ‘Climate Change - An Issue for Everyone’ at 7pm. This event is being run in conjunctio­n with GLAN Tralee & Transition Kerry. Cost €8. There are two other daytime events taking place on the same day, being organised by GLAN Tralee.

Mike O’Neill will make a presentati­on at 11am at the Imperial Hotel, Tralee, on his transition to a plastic free business. This is a free event. Mike O’Neill is a café owner, founder of the Wild Mind Nature Festival and Chair of Fenit Developmen­t Associatio­n.

Then at 1pm at Siamsa Tire, Angela Nagle will talk about her family’s experience when they cut out plastic for a month and she will discuss her top tips for shopping and living plastic-free. This is a free event and is supported by Kerry County Council.

Spring 2019 - Transition Kerry Community Climate Action Courses: Transition Kerry are looking for community groups who want to participat­e in our upcoming ‘Community Climate Action’ courses taking place around the county in spring 2019. These are one-off 3-hour long courses, looking at how our patterns of consumptio­n can have a major affect on our climate, biodiversi­ty and ecosystems.
