BALLYDONOGHUE LISSELTON
OPERATION TRANSFORMATION:
Coolard Sportsfield lights up in partnership with RTE’s Operation Transformation every Thursday evening at 7.00pm, running until February 21st. Floodlights will be on to enable walkers to take part in a safe environment, registration each night is necessary and the wearing of a high-vis vest is advisable. High-vis vests are available at all Garda Stations. Everybody welcome to take part in this initiative.
NATIONAL COURSING FINALS:
Good luck to all the coursing hopefuls from Ballydonoghue and surrounding areas who are competing in Powerstown Park next week in a bid to bring back the Gold to Ballydonoghue. A record number from the area have qualified for the competitions this year.
PARISH MAGAZINE:
The Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine AGM took place on Jan 21st. The following officers were elected. The Magazine has been divided into sections for the past number of years and the following committee members are assigned to each one. The committee is busy planning the 35th consecutive editionof your Parish Magazine and is on the lookout for the following, entries for the Maurice Walsh Creative Writing, the Johnny Bambury Poetry, and the Senior Photography. Email to magazine@ or post to Lisselton Post Office. Please include name and address on a separate attachment for all competition entries. Other items required are photos of family occasions, weddings, christenings, Debs, 21st and special birthdays, Communion and Confirmation. Include as much information as possible with photos and name to whom they are to be returned to.
BARDIC FESTIVAL:
The BBF committee is finalising plans for the upcoming Bardic Festival, which will take place in the parish from Thursday, March 21st Sunday, March 24th. Details of competitions- Adults Robert Leslie Boland Award Poem (50 lines max), Quiet man Maurice Walsh Award Short Story (2,500 words max), Dán- (50 línte ar a mhéad) as Gaeilge. Duais Phádraig Liath Ó Conchubhair. Children - The Chrissie Nolan Creative Writing Award Poem (50 lines max) or Short Story (1,000 words max) in English. Dán (50 línte ar a mhéad) no Gearrscéal (1,000 focal ar a mhéad) as Gaeilge. Entry fees, Adults - €10, Children - €5 for up to two entries in any combination. CCE NEWS
Dates for your diary: Entries for Sult na Nóg competitions must be with branch Secretary, Miriam by this Friday 1st February. Entry form can be downloaded from Kerry CCE website.
There will be a branch meeting this Friday February 1st in Lisselton School at 8.45pm.
Féile Feabhra Lixnaw will take place next weekend February 2nd /3rd at the Ceolann Lixnaw. All novice musicians, singers and step dancers are encouraged to take part. Ballydonoghue /Lisselton CCE annual Concert takes place Saturday 16th February in Tomaisins Hall commencing at 6.30pm.
Best of luck to all our musicians and set dancers competing in the Muster final of Ceoil an Geimhreadh, Drumcollogher, Sunday, 17th February.
Our annual church gate collection takes place 23rd February. A County board meeting will take place 11th February in the Rose Hotel Tralee.

DEATH:
The death occurred at home on Wednesday, January 23rd of Mary O’Gorman (nee Finnerty, Asdee), Lacca. Mary had turned 86 on New Year’s Day. The family’s popularity was evident at the huge attendance at the removal from Lyon’s Funeral Home to St Teresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue and again at Mass and burial in Gale Cemetery. Mary’s husband, Con is a member of the well-known O’Gorman Builders. Sympathy is extended to her husband, Con, daughters, Mary Ellen and Donal O’Sullivan and family, Loughanes, Noreen and John Bambury and family, Lahesrough, Breda and Patrick Keane and family, Lahardane, sons, Mike and Kay and family, Ballingown, John and Breda and family, Barna and Con (Jnr), SMOA, Beaufort. May she rest in peace.
