Keane to manage Kierans as Shanahan goes South

WITH it confirmed that there will be a Munster and All-Ireland Junior Football Championsh­ip in 2019, Kerry Junior manager Jimmy Keane will double up later in the year as he will be managing the St Kierans senior team for the County SFC. Keane, a member of the 1988 county championsh­ip winning St Kierans team will succeed Pat O’Shea of Scartaglin in the role.

In his role as Kerry Junior team manager Keane will only have a Munster Final in the Junior competitio­n away to Cork in late June to prepare for, the second consecutiv­e year both sides are the only counties in Munster to enter the competitio­n.

Elsewhere, John Shanahan will take over as manager of the South Kerry football team for 2019, with Austin Constable to be one of his selectors, with others to be announced, Shanahan succeeds William Harmon in the position.

Meanwhile, Jerry O’Sullivan will remain on with East Kerry at Senior and U-21 level in the County Championsh­ip, but he has stepped down from his native Firies, with former Rathmore manager Denis Moynihan to succeed him tat the Premier Junior side.

Rathmore are still on the lookout for a new manager with their ‘B’ team currently competing the East Kerry Super League for the club.

Killarney Legion have appointed Thomas Lyne as a selector to work alongside new manager Stephen Stack and trainer Pat Flanagan, with former Kerry goalkeeper Peter O’Leary and former Club Chairman Enda Walshe are involved in the backroom team.
