Glenbeigh Falcons 34 Killarney Cougars 35

A CLOSELY contested game throughout saw the result in doubt until the buzzer with Cougars taking the title by just a point to follow the Cougars boys title win. Cougars made the stronger start to lead at the end of the opening quarter 11-8 with Meave Bellew and Meabh Coleman Horgan on target with five points each.

Glenbeigh’s Eimear Burke ensured the Falcons stayed in touch with the Cougars with some great baskets to leave just three points between the side 19-16. Glenbeigh were on top in the third quarter with Marin Duffy and Eimear Burke getting the scores to tie the game 26-26 with a Holly Clifford three pointer keeping the Cougars level.

The lead changed sides throughout the thrilling final quarter with the Falcons Eimear Burke impressing with some hard earned scores against the strong Cougars defence pushed the Falcons in front but the Killarney girls despite serious foul trouble dug and baskets by Bellew and Clifford gave Cougars a one point lead with the Falcons pressure just failing to secure a winning basket.

The top scorer was Eimear Burke with 20 points for Glenbeigh Falcons with Holly Clifford, Meave Bellew and Meabh Coleman Horgan best for the Cougars.

Cup and Plate finals GIRLS U13 CUP FINAL

Tralee Imperials 36 St. Anne’s 20

TRALEE Imperials secured the Girls U13 Division 1 Cup with a decisive 36-20 win over St. Anne’s. Imperials dominated the exchanges throughout the contest and when Lucy O’Donnell fired in three early scores it set the tone for what was to follow. Clodagh Clifford, Siun Fitzgibbon and Saoirse Moriarty also hit baskets to see Imperials lead 12-3 at quarter time.

Grace Lucid and Aoibhin McCarthy kept the Imperials score ticking over but St. Anne’s launched a solid comeback with scores from Doireann O’Shea and Nicola Darlington cutting the gap to 6 at the half time break.

Imperials picked up the pace again early in the third and Siun Fitzgibbon, Saoirse Moriarty and Holly O’Brien helped the Tralee side to a 30-16 lead going into the final quarter. In a low scoring finale Imperials did enough with scores from Aoibhin McCarthy and Shannon Martin cancelling out late efforts from Michaela O’Meara and Doireann O’Shea for St. Anne’s.

U16 GIRLS CUP FINAL

St Marys 41 Kenmare Kestrels 28

ST Marys Castleisla­nd dominated this U16 Cup Final with a top class performanc­e throughout to deservedly take the title. St Marys lead 14-5 at the end of the opening quarter thanks to Paris McCarthy and Aoife Kerins dominance as they shared 12 points.

Kenmare worked heard all through but strong defence kept them at bay despite the best efforts of Amy Harrington their top scorer with 16 points. St Marys led 23-9 at half time and were in control through the second half.

U-16 BOYS CUP FINAL

St Brendans 59 St Pauls 57

A VERY entertaini­ng final saw St Brendans take the title with a hard earned win in a game that could have gone either way. The Tralee boys were ahead 20-14 in the opening quarter thanks to the excellent Graham Sheehy’s 15 points including three three-pointers. St Pauls contested well throughout with Ben Flavin 10 points and David Miksic six points ensuring they remained in contention to trail by just three at half time 33-30.

The sides were basket for basket through the second half with the Tralee despite trailing in the final quarter always able to quickly respond with Graham Sheehy outstandin­g throughout with 19 second half points to finish with a personal tally of 36 points ensuring the Cup for Tralee with Tadgh Reen and Adam O’Keeffe impressing for Tralee.

St Pauls Jamie O’Sullivan and Jason Lee both performing well for the Killarney who missed from the free throw line to take the game to overtime as St Brendans just edged this game that went right down to the buzzer.

U17 GIRLS CUP FINAL

Tralee Imperials 48 Gneeveguil­la 31

A STRONG second half performanc­e by the Imperials saw them claim the U17 Cup with a hard earned win. A competitiv­e first half saw Imperials hold a narrow half-time lead but the Tralee side controlled the third quarter to set them on the road to victory finish with a comfortabl­e winning margin. Imperials best performanc­es came from Mary O’Connell and Imperials Captain Rebecca Conway.

BOYS U12 DIV 1 CUP

St. Mary’s 48 St. Brendan’s 34

ST. Mary’s captured the U12 Division 1 Cup with a deserved win over a brave and battling St. Brendan’s side. Mary’s had the upper hand throughout and led at the end of all four quarters. Gerard Costello and Killian Dennehy were on the mark early for the Castleisla­nd side and they led 17-5 at quarter time. Cillian O’Sullivan and David Healy edged Mary’s further ahead but Brendan’s hit back through Brayden Pierce and Gearoid White to cut the lead to 9 at half-time.

Despite opening the scoring in the third quarter St. Brendan’s could only watch as Mary’s pushed on again with scores from Freddy Mahony to end the third quarter leading 36-20. Brendan’s fought and battled right to the end with scores from Liam Cooper and Brayden Pierce giving the Tralee side a slim chance midway through the fourth. Baskets from Healy, Dennehy, Gary Boyle and Shane Kelliher were more than enough to see Mary’s home by 48-34 in the end.

GIRLS U12 DIV 1 CUP

Glenbeigh Falcons 28 St. Mary’s 24

GLENBEIGH Falcons collected their first U12 Division 1 Cup with a 28-24 win over St. Mary’s in a thrilling decider that went right down to the wire. Mary’s had the better of the opening quarter and with scores from Mollie Mahony and Colleen O’Callaghan led 11-6 at quarter time. Glenbeigh stormed back into the contest through the sharp shooting of Mary Kate Smith with 11 points that gave the Falcons a 19-12 half time lead.

Glenbeigh maintained their advantage, and as the sides turned for home, led by 22-15. But much to Mary’s credit they staged a great comeback to reel in the Glenbeigh lead and suddenly the sides were level at 24 points apiece. However Falcons steadied to see the win out through Naoise Burke and Mary Kate Smith to seal the deal late on.
