St. Brendan’s 55 St. Mary’s 47
ST. Brendan’s powered their way to a 55-47 victory over St. Mary’s with a great all round team performance headlined by the individual contribution of captain and top scorer Olaf Michalczuk.
The sides went score for score early on with Michalczuk and Kieran Arellano in range for Brendan’s while Eoghan Shire and Jack Griffin were on the mark for Mary’s as the first quarter ended level at 15 points apiece. Brendan’s pushed ahead in the second with Aaron Nolan at the heart of all that was good for Brendan’s and with a seven point personal haul helped his side to a 29-22 half time lead.
Mary’s tried to forge their way back into the contest in the third through Kian Downey, Brian O’Leary and Griffin but Brendan’s maintained control with Adam O’Carroll, Stephen Barrett and Brian O’Donnell hitting baskets to keep Brendan’s in front by 47-35 as the sides turned for home.
The outstanding Brendan’s captain Olaf Michalczuk led the final charge for the line and with a peerless performance from the field and free throw line saw him land 15 points in the fourth quarter.

The Castleisland women led by six at half time and eased out comfortable winners with Lorraine Scanlon scoring 21 points and Mia Hopkins hitting 18.
