Scottish and US trips on St Patrick’s Day for Minister and Mayor

- BY SIMON BROUDER

THE Kerry flag will be flying in the US and Scotland this Sunday, with senior politicians and officials from the county on St Patrick’s Day goodwill trips.

Kerry TD and Junior Minister for Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin will be in Scotland for the St Patrick’s Day festivities, where he will also be taking part in a number of last minute pre-Brexit talks with Scottish officials and members of Nicola Sturgeon’s administration. Meanwhile, Mayor of Kerry Cllr Norma Foley and Kerry County Council Chief Executive Moira Murrell will be heading across the Atlantic to join the celebrations in New York.

Cllr Foley and Ms Murrell will meet officials from the IDA, Tourism Ireland, the Ireland-US Business Council and the American Chamber. They will also meet the Mayor of New York and will join members of the Kerry diaspora in the St Patrick’s Day Parade on Fifth Avenue on Saturday. They will be joined on the visit by KCC Tourism Officer John Griffin.

“At this time every year, there is an unparalleled international attention on one country for a few days, particularly in the US. It is vital that Kerry’s voice is heard during this period, when there is such a focus on Ireland. This is an essential opportunity to promote Kerry as a place to work, live and invest, and our itinerary reflects this ambition,” said the Mayor.
