Beaufort get points from Crokes

-

DIVISION TWO

DR Crokes B’s debut in this division had a disappointing start as they did not get to kick a ball in anger as matters turned out.

They were forced to concede a walkover to Beaufort as their efforts to get the game rescheduled with this weekend’s All-Ireland Senior Club Final in mind proved unsuccessful.

It marked the first time they did not complete a game since they entered this side into the County League back in 2014. On the field there were two draws as neither Glenbeigh / Glencar vs. John Mitchels or Castleisland Desmonds vs. Dromid Pearses could produce a winner.

Kenmare Shamrocks had to come from behind at half-time to get the better of newly promoted Annascaul as a Cathal Ferriter goal had given the West Kerry side a lead of 1-3 to 0-4 at the break.

A Dylan O’Connor goal saw Kenmare go ahead on the scoreboard at Paddy Kennedy Memorial Park however as they hung on for a 1-9 to 1-8 victory at the final whistle.

Ballymacelligott would score three goals in getting the better of Glenflesk in their opening fixture with the St Kierans side having led by 1-5 to 0-5 at the break. They added two further goals in a 3-10 to 0-9 win as they would finish with 14 men following a second yellow card in the second period for the visitors.

The two clubs that both won on the same day in Croke Park back in 2015 met in Brosna as the All-Ireland Junior Club Champions that year got the better of the side who won the Intermediate decider afterwards in Ardfert.

The St Brendans side had led early on but a goal from Tom McGoldrick gave Brosna the advantage at half-time at 1-3 to 0-4 despite the best efforts of Trevor Wallace for the visitors.

Bobby O’Regan was unlucky not to get a goal for Ardfert in the second period, but Timmy Finnegan started to dominate at midfield for Brosna as they went ahead on the scoreboard again and would record a double score victory at 1-11 to 0-7.

John Mitchels and Glenbeigh / Glencar was ruined as a contest by the conditions as both sides opted for possession football, but the Tralee side did have a lead of 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time with Michael Kelliher scoring two of their points as well as Shane and Thomas Kearns getting their other scores.

Darran O’Sullivan scored all of Glenbeigh / Glencar’s first-half total, but the Mid Kerry side will be thankful to have secured a 0-6 apiece draw having been two points behind late on.

Dromid Pearses returned home from Castleisland with a draw, meanwhile, after an equaliser in the final minute of normal time from Christopher Farley having gone in level with Desmonds at 0-7 to 1-4 at the break.

Niall O’Shea’s goal in the second period had brought them back within a point of the hosts having trailed by 2-7 to 0-9 in the second period but the match went on to finish honours even at 2-8 to 1-11.

Round 2 should see Crokes and Beaufort line out for the first time this year, the Killarney side due to be at home to John Mitchels while the All-Ireland Junior Club Champions will travel over to Kenmare. Ardfert host Annascaul meanwhile with Glenbeigh / Glencar at home to Ballymacelligott.

Dromid Pearses are at home to Brosna meanwhile with Glenflesk looking for their first points at home to Desmonds in two weeks.
