Duagh hosts Under 13 indoor soccer competitio­ns

THE Indoor Soccer competitio­ns for the U-13 Girls, U-13 Boys and U-10 Boys were concluded on Sunday at the Duagh Sport & Leisure Complex.

U-13 Girls Indoor Soccer

In the U-13 Girls’ competitio­n, Kenmare came out on top against Miltown/Listry by 6 goals to 4. In the second semi, Firies proved too strong for Listowel winning by 7-2. In the play-off match Miltown/Listry won the Bronze medals defeating Listowel who received the pewter medals by 6-2.

In the Final Kenmare scored three early goals but the Firies girls stuck to their task and eventually saw off Kenmare by 7-5 to win the title. Results: 1st Firies; 2nd Kenmare; 3rd Miltown/Listry; 4th Listowel

U-13 Boys Indoor Soccer

In the U-13 Boys’ competitio­n, Killarney defeated Currow/Currans by 9 goals to 5 in the first semi. The second semi-final was a close encounter with Spa Muckross eventually seeing off Kenmare by 4-2.

In the play-off game, Kenmare came out on top to claim the Bronze medals defeating Currow/Currans who received the Pewter medals on a score of 8-6.

The final was always going to be interestin­g as it was a derby between Spa Muckross and Killarney. The lead changed hands on a couple of occasions and at the final whistle Spa Muckross captured the county title and gold medals on a 6-4 scoreline. Results: 1st Spa/Muckross; 2nd Killarney; 3rd Kenmare; 4th Currow/Currans

U-10 Boys Indoor Soccer

In the U-10 boys competitio­n, Spa/Fenit/Barrow defeated Fossa by 4 goals to 1. In the second semi Ballymacel­ligott defeated Rathmore/ Gneeveguil­la 6-2. In the play-off match Fossa won the Bronze medals by defeating Rathmore/Gneeveguil­la who received the Pewter medals by 4-2. The final was an exciting encounter with nothing between the sides and it took a penalty to decide it with Spa Fenit/Barrow scoring midway through the second half to win the title and gold medals.

Results: 1st Spa/Fenit/Barrow; 2nd Ballymacel­ligott; 3rd Fossa; 4th Rathmore/Gneeveguil­la.

CHESS

The county finals of the Chess U-13 and U-16 competitio­ns were held in Glenflesk on Sunday last with 15 teams competing. Results

U-13: 1st Fossa; 2nd Castleisla­nd; 3rd Kenmare; 4th Killarney.

U-16: 1st Spa/Fenit/Barrow; 2nd Castleisla­nd; 3rd Firies; 4th Kenmare.

All gold medal winners will now represent Kerry at the provincial finals in Tralee on Easter Saturday. Well done to all our teams on both their skill levels and also their sportsmans­hip after each game no matter the result.
