Astellas win major SEAI energy award
PHARMACEUTICALS firm Astellas has won an award for its energy efficiency standards at its Killorglin facility.
Astellas were among the winners at the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) 2019 Energy Awards.
At the gala event Astellas Ireland’s Kerry Plant won the away the ‘Buildings’ award for the Astellas Renewal Kerry building project.
Astellas’ Ireland’s Kerry plant manufactures a range of treatments, including the immunosuppressant Prograf which is supplied to 114 countries globally from Killorglin.
The Astellas Renewal Kerry building project is built to the highest international energy efficient design standards.
Insulation is installed on floors and walls. The building includes innovative energy technologies and also includes PV panels on the roof and a solar thermal array. Energy cost savings are 38 per cent per annum above current building regulations and every year 950 tonnes of carbon is prevented from entering the atmosphere.
A total of nine awards were presented to businesses, communities and public sector organisations by the SEAI recognising their commitment and dedication to excellence in energy management and creating a cleaner energy future.
Congratulating all the finalists and award winners, Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Richard Bruton said “How we respond to the challenge of climate disruption will define us as a generation.”
“These awards are an opportunity to highlight those taking leadership and managing their energy use in a more sustainable way. Those being recognised here are beacons to their communities, showcasing how we can all step up,” he said.
